DreamRays
Illustration
I created this Illustrative piece in honor of my little sister, she isn’t dead. She's a hyperactive, smart, athletic girl who unfortunately got slowed down by a hip injury that required surgery to fix. In a moment she went from flying through the air in a track field long jump, to stuck in a bed for weeks on end. The once powerful gymnast, beautiful ballerina, and upcoming trackstar became restricted by the very body that blessed her to be able to fly. So why did I make this?
So my sister was pretty down in the dumps on account of her hip surgery and at the time I was away at school so I couldn’t even sit with her through it and keep her company. To create a feeling of escapism I worked on creating a whimsical artwork that would transport her to a dreamworld where she could fly again with her favorite animals, rays, in the clouds on a starry night.
I also went with a storybook feel to the illustration since I would often read to her at night before bed, although at this point my sister is closer to highschool senior than a young child that this painting would be more appropriate for, but in my heart she’ll always be my baby sister.
